Zombie Movies

I think I may finally understand the appeal of zombie movies. Some of them at least. Last night I was watching more recent Dawn of the Dead and found it enjoyable. The main thing I think I liked about it is that it was fun to think about how I could do better than the characters. You know, if the world were ever overrun by zombies. It's the same thing I liked about 28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead. They all elevate the zombie situation into a solvable problem while adding humor and they seem more "realistic" as a result. The zombie movies I like remind me of traditional logic problems in which the zombies are completely logical beings. They operate in a very predictable manner and your job is to solve the problem they represent. I wonder if this is what other people like about these movies. Or is it just the horror aspect?
